Sowerby Scorcher 2017

The 2017 Sowerby Scorcher 10k multi-terrain challenge run, held on Saturday 20 May, started off in glorious sunshine.  Over 200 runners entered, coming from all around Calderdale and beyond, a record number in the event’s 9th year. Our registration team were kept busy as the queue sometimes went out the door!

The volunteers on the catering team were also kept busy with refreshments for the many supporters cheering the runners on and a very welcome piece of cake and hot drink for all runners on their return.

Out on the course, some found the hills a little tough going but there was always support around them.  Unfortunately during the race the weather closed in and the later runners finished in rain.

For the first time this year,  the runners had a sports therapist on hand to give a quick massage on their return to the Centre as Rebecca Cheslett from Back to Fitness Physiotherapy joined us.

Prizes were awarded to the first three placed male and female runners, and to the first veteran male and female runner.  This year we welcomed Mr Craig Whitaker to start the race and to present the prizes.

Our thanks go to all who gave up their time to volunteer on the day to be part of the team registering, time keeping, marshalling, first aiding or providing cups of tea. We also thank Springhill Water for their generous sponsorship of the race which helps cover the administration costs.

Most of all, thank you to all the runners, their families and friends for turning out and supporting the event.  All profits from the event go to Sowerby Parish funds.

We hope you enjoyed it and look forward to seeing you again next year.
